Wallace Run browns and bows

My son and I made the short trek over to Wallace Run to fish for wild browns. Wallace Run is where I cut my fishing teeth as a youngster so it is always special when I have a chance to fish it with my son. The section we fished is stocked but is fairly self sufficient with a good number of home grown fish.

We both got on the board with a couple wild brown trout right out of the gate which always calls for a quick stream side coffee break during the cold months. After several minutes of sipping coffee and talking about strategies for covering the small tight creek, we got back to work.

We tight lined a variety of nymphs with nice results. That being said, I don’t think we caught more than one fish on any given fly today. I don’t know who was more confused. The fish or the anglers.

Brown trout are amazing fish. The variation in color and patterns makes each one unique and as beautiful as the places that they live. This little guy still has the faint remnants of its par markings.

My son connected with two nice rainbows in a spot we call the “waterfall hole”. They are stocked fish but the colors were incredible.

I had the honors of hooking up with the last fish before we had to head out to my sisters for thanksgiving dinner. There was no doubt the rainbow ate my Prince Nymph as I saw my sighter line go tight and my rod load. It was a great battle in tight quarters and put an exclamation mark on the end of our trip!

We have one more day to fish before getting back to the work grind. On the way to my sisters we plotted our next days fishing excursion. Stay tuned.. it’s gonna be a good one!
