Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60L 2025 Review: Why This Redesign Is a Game-Changer for Backpackers

If you’re planning an extended backpacking trip and need a pack that balances comfort, weight, and functionality, the redesigned Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60L (2025 edition) deserves your attention. In my latest video, I dive deep into the improvements that make this pack stand out for serious hikers.

I’ve used the older Mariposa on the John Muir Trail, and while it was a solid ultralight option, its weight distribution left room for improvement. The 2025 redesign fixes that with load lifters integrated directly into the frame, transferring weight efficiently to the hip belt for a more comfortable carry—even with heavier loads.

Here are some highlights from the review:

• Capacity & Weight: 60L total (36L main compartment + 24L external pockets), weighing just 34.2 oz for a medium size with a medium belt. It comfortably carries up to 30 lbs.

• Hip Belt: Well-padded, with two pockets and a pivot design for natural hip movement.

• Organization: Multiple pockets, including an asymmetrical side pocket for quick shelter access and a reinforced front pocket for bulky gear.

• Extras: Signature sit pad, trekking pole bungees, ice axe loop, and a lightweight aluminum frame.

• Material: Durable nylon (not waterproof—use a liner or rain cover).

I’ll be taking this pack on the Uinta Highline Trail, where I’ll need to carry up to eight days of food. If you’re curious about how this pack performs and whether it’s right for your next adventure, watch the full review video for all the details and my honest impressions.
